When Los Angeles TV Will Flip To Digital (June 12, 2009)http://hdtv.forsandiego.com/messages/1/7546.html?1244777547During the entire day Friday, all of the full powered Los Angeles TV stations will be turning off their analog signals and assume their final digital channel assignments. The times that each of the stations will be varying all day, which necessitates a rescanning of your DTV to pick up the new lineup of the digital channels in that area because in some cases, the digital channels will be on different frequencies. So after a digital channel changes frequencies, your DTV or digital to analog converter won't pick up the channels again until you do a rescan. According to the FCC filings seen at the link above, here are the list of channels that will be turning off their analog channels between certain times of the day. Where you see "new freq" are the digital channels that will be moving to a new frequency, requiring a rescan of your DTV tuner. Between Midnight and 6 AM: 24, 28 (new freq), 56 Between 6 AM and Noon: 4, 7 (new freq), 18 (new freq), 30 Between Noon and 6 PM: 2 (new freq), 5, 9 (new freq), 58 Between 6 PM and Midnight: 11 (new freq), 13 (new freq), 22, 34 (new freq), 40 (new freq--may move to channel 33?), 44, 46, 50, 52, 54, 62 (new freq), 63 63's booster, from which most of their viewers got their analog signal, keeled over earlier this week and won't be repaired. No word if a digital booster is in the works according to the post. KJLA (57), of course, took the plunge in February. Their translator on 33 is still on the air, and will need to go away to make room for 40. (Anybody know if 40 really is jumping to 33 on Friday? Or are they staying on 23 for awhile longer?) According to that graphic from the Channel 9 news story last month: 2 - 1:00 PM 4 - 6:00 AM 5 - 10:45 PM (note the discrepancy with their FCC filing) 7 - Noon 9 - 1:00 PM 11 - 11:45 PM 13 - 11:45 PM (those are the only channels they listed)" http://www.fcc.gov/DA-09-1303A2.pdf Analog channels KCBS 2, KNBC 4, KTLA 5, and KWHY 22 will be nightlight stations dispensing information about DTV for a few weeks or so. After that, they'll sign off forever. KCBS-TV 2 will remain on till July 12, 2009, while KNBC 4, KTLA 5 and KWHY-TV 22 will remain until June 26, 2009. KCBS-2 will be L.A.'s last and final full powered analog shutdown. This will leave the analog low power stations remaining as they'll have to get ready to make the DTV switch themselves. In San Diego, analog KNSD 39 will be the local nightlight station until June 26. Arizona stations becoming nightlight stations listed include KPHO 5 in Phoenix through June 26, KTVK 3 Phoenix through July 12, KMSB 11 in Tucson through June 26, and KUAS 27 in Tucson through July 12. In Las Vegas, its KVVU 5 through June 26. No stations in the Coachella, Imperial Valley, or Santa Barbara are listed to be nighlight stations.
